selection of beer here is famous. The hamburgers are fabulous--because it comes from a local butcher shop. None of that crappy supermarket frozen patties.
But the best thing about this place is the service. Very friendly and warm. Very helpful.
It ain't a fancy place. Its a great place to meet some buddies, relax with decent food and your preferred brew over good conversation.

The bartender seemed alright at first.. Got me beer(over priced for example 1 Hoegarden $6.00 ! It cost roughly a little more than that for a 6 pack of it) So, later that night (about 4 beers into it) wanted to cash out. Their was a dispute I had with my check.. screwed up writing the 'Tip Amount' a few times. Asked for a new print out(which was done on regular ticket printing paper not through a veriphone) three times.. I was coped such an attitude, by the third time I decided screw the tip, wrote one in(by mistake) Thus, asked for a forth. In deciding they will receive nothing, while being vocal about it. Asked for another one so I could plainly mark $0.00 in the tip category.(denied) I get pretty pissed at this time, I'm yelling trying to get my card back(Initially handed to them so they could just print me one out if it went through VeriSign so I gave it to them.). They intentionally handed me someone else card, the bouncer comes over and assaults me, they are grabbing my card and some other card(Both Bank of America cards) I wanted/needed mine. I held onto both until i got get a grasp through all of the pulling on me, & take the best look I could for my card. They injured my hand and arm. I only wish I knew how badly my wrist, thumb, arm was hurt otherwise I would have went immediately to the hospital, received care, and filled a report with whatever department would take it at the hospital. I asked from them to call the cops on me(oh yea, cos after I'm out the door they think by telling me they are going to call the cops I would be afraid.. I called their bluff... no cops where called(whish they where I was declined that request).. and I had to run to catch a ride..Before, I was left with a very long walk. I get home find their contact info trying to take some names get information correct. I asked to speak to the manager he said he was the manager, he gave me a fake name, wouldn't let me record the conversation(Cos hey, I'm just the drunk right? i was in the wrong? Why do i want something substantial on record). The "night manager" refused to give any information not even verify if I had even in fact called the Phoenix Emporium(yea they did in fact answer "Phoenix" But not with emporium. .asked for they to verify: A) The Tele # I called B) location of the establishment C) Which police department i should contact in the matter(For jurisdiction reasons) Listen. DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE. If you want a terrible night to remember, May I recommend this place! Go up to The Ellicot city Brewery or something get something done by someone with a education(Brew master).. They treat their patrons fair.
So, the bartender's name is Patrick(buzz cut, short beard), the other I'm unsure of. Listen these guys are as thick as thieves up there.

Great atmosphere. Very laid back. Bartenders are genuinely nice and most of the time introduce themselves. Tons of different beers, something for everyones taste. Only problems are they don't have any tap, and i personally have never cared for the food, but i know people who love it. Some nights its packed other nights you've got plenty of room. Definitely stop by if you're in the area and you want a drink.

Average place, even with 75+ different bottles to offer. Not very adventurous in the selection, although I did like the Xingu, which I hadn't tasted in years. Suffers from the same "terminal quaintness" as many overrated Ellicott City establishments. You certainly could do worse, but you could do so much better!

This is a great place to stop in and have a drink or two before moving on to the next place... The drinks are always cold and the bar maids are always sweet and kind (even when busy)... Its a great place to stop and wet your whistle while out riding you motorcycles! If you look real hard, you may see a few REAL hippies in this place... Too Cool!

What more could you ask for? Great bar, great bands and the service is fantastic. The view is terrific, the owner actually CHECKED TO SEE THAT WE WERE HAVING A GOOD TIME! I can't see how anyone could not enjoy the experience. As the batender Steve for some insight on a new shooter, the man is Dr. Blenderman!

Stay away, don't waste your money. Not a beer bar, shouldn't even be listed on the Crawl. Selection same old Bud(Big Boy)crap and most past dated or rot beer. Came in, staff seemed to interested with themselves, then patrons, ordered a couple of brews, skunked, had to wait forever to ask for something else. Then got an attitude from the bartender telling us there was nothing wrong with the beer, and if we wanted something else we'd have to pay for that also. When we asked to speak to a manager, bartender said he was the Owner, and if we didn't like what he said too bad. Crawlies don't waste you time or money.

How can a place in this day and age not have a draft system? Beer selection was large but no varied. Many examples of the same styles over and over and VERY little local beer, whcih is understandable considering it right down the street from two awesome ones (Ellicott City Brewing and BAre Bones). I didn't expect much from the food and it was what I expected.....its a tavern not a sit down dining place. To be honest.....it a quaint little tavern in a quaint little town. Great spot to stop for a cocktail. Waitress was sweet and a cutie and full of life. I will say this...there was what would seem to be a manager there (I hope its not an owner) named Terry (or Tarry) that me and my wife had to listen to him run his mouth, talk on his cell hpone apparantly having a fight with his girlfriend or wife..consistently just watched and did little as everyone worked hard (it was very busy) and my wife couldn't help but notice him leering at every female that walked in. We almost felt dirty when we left the place. Huis language was atrocious and he smiled not once in 90 mintues. Overall I'd go back for a drink...atmosphere can't be replaced, people can (hint hint). It would be a shame to see such a hardworking staff lose out because of one bad seed.

Good beer, good selection. Quality of entertainment has gone down since last year. Last New Years they had an acoustic act that really rocked L&L, now it's the same act all the time...guess they hire the pros on holidays.

Neat bar in Ellicott City with a huge beer selection. Great burgers and a hottie waitress. Accoustic bands on weekends and a nice crowd on both floors.

99 bottles of beer on the—okay, not quite, but their beer list is ridiculous (I’m working on sampling them all…), domestic, microbrew, non-alcoholic (not my favorite choice), and imports from places like Lithuania, I don’t even know where that is on the map….A little bit of an eccentric decorating scheme, and yes, everything in the bar is actually for sale, some of the items boast ridiculous prices…all part of the joke. Food-wise, they’ve got burgers to reubens, to a fettuccini alfreado, it will fit pretty much anyone’s palate. The down stairs seems to be for the more seasoned bar-goer, a relaxed environment, if you’re there on a weekend night, ask Dave to make you a French Martini. The upstairs, opened up this time of year is definitely a change of pace, it seems to be a little bit younger of a crowd, pool tables, bar, and tables just to chill if you don’t want to hit up the dance floor. So far so good, the bar came under new ownership sometime this year also. There is a greater variety entertainment-wise as opposed to previous years. There is live music on the weekends, Doobie J. definitely puts on a great show, full of energy, and songs you can sing to, order a shot of whatever they’re drinking. Thursday night is Karaoke, and the drunker they get, the more entertaining it becomes. Overall the dichotomy of up and downstairs bars plays into the whole “anything goes” attitude of the bar, you can run into just about anyone there, and that’s part of the whole appeal of the Phoenix.

They have at least 30+ beers. A fair number of microbrews and an even larger number of imports, all bottled. The food is decent pub fair. They now have an upstairs open, you have to go outside and up the stairs. It is sort of like 2 separate bars. The downstairs is more pub-like with live entertainment on the weekends. The upstairs has a DJ and small dance floor. It was pretty hoppin' when the upstairs first openend, but it has been getting pretty slow recently. The downstairs section seems to be competing with the upstairs club, as the crowds have been getting much larger downstairs with the recent addition of live music I think a lot of people do not even know there is a club upstairs, it isn't necessarily obvious from outside or inside that there is a club upstairs. There are plenty of other bars in the area that you can walk to, so you can do the Ellicott City bar tour and hit them all on the weekend. For some reason, the waitresses hardly ever last more than one week. I go there quite often, and half the time the waitress says that it is her 1st or second day. One waitress was there for 6 weeks. I swear that had to have been a record. Anyway, if you are hitting any of the other bars in Ellicott City, definately walk down the street and check out the Phoenix.

Only bottled beer, but a huge selection. Jackie is the world's best bar tender. The burgers are some of the best I've ever had. And the ranch dressing the the absolute best I've ever had.
